Above are the original Logo and name used by Carrefour in Mainland China.

Smat local copy of Carrefour name and logo on the above ad :

1. "Gain Full" and "Carrefour" sound similar in english
2. the typography and color codes are very similar
3. The chinese name differs by 1 letter only.

Above is the original Logo of Yves Saint Lorent garments brand (www.ysl.com).

"VSL" instead of YSL... he he, for the one who does not pay much attention to this logo, the copy is indeed great...

Above are the original Logos

This one looks quite persuasive too... the bird of the original logo has been relooked and both the first name and name "GEORGI AMONI" were modified probably to make it match with an easier pronounciation for chinese people as well as to avoid obvious copyright problems. The first eye contact to this brand easily mislead it witeh GIORIO ARMANI.

Above is the original Logo of ESPRIT garments brand (www.esprit.com).

In Oct 2005, ESPRIT has 58 outlets in Shanghai.

A nice attempt to lure the customers with a copy-transform-paste version of ESPRIT famous garments brand. We can maybe expect that any next version of this fake logo will hopefully means something. The independant small shop indeed sells garments and shoes.

Fast food businesshas also its great ersatz : (KFG instead of KFC)

on the left, the "KFG" replica...

... and here on the right, an original KFC store in China..

Nice sample of a Colgate toothbrush (Colgate has a factory in China) followed by a nice copy, branded "XKCK". Both toothbrushed being slightly different, the packaging is amazingly similar. Both are sold in the same store, displayed next to each other and intentionally confusing for the customer...

Above, the original Logo of Rolls Royce luxury cars.

... Nice name for a garments store, found in Harbin, Heilongjiang province. Maybe the owner's previous ambiton would have been to be a luxury car dealer? | Photo by A. Mathey, Oct 2005|

... But hey ... let's guess the owner also has a bank account in the above well known bank, no?

Nice logo for a kidswear brand ! ...

(photo taken early January 2005 in Plaza 66 in Shanghai, one of the top-notch department store in town)

Nice "Lucky Coffee" photographied in July 2005 in Beijing ... the good point is that the printing companies do not have to worry about even changing the overall layout and color codes...

... if anybody sees a version with a horse or an elephant, I am interested too.

Playboy used to be a really sucessful brand in Mainland China before much more international brands came in starting few years ago.

... Did you know "PaperBoy"? ... an amazing erzatz for "Playboy"...

... these are well 2 different booths displaying curously similar kind of items (wallets, pens... etc). The 2 booths are located no more than 3 meters away from each other... in the Beijing Capital Airport domestic departure area. (photo taken in Nov 2003).

Update :
During a trip in Beijing in September 2004, it has been removed and only the real Mont Blanc booth remains.

The chinese one, photographied in central Shanghai, Huai Hai Road in October 2003. The "Italy" origin is most fashionable... and it avoids a possible complications of a copyright with ...

... the original Logo from the famous outwear american brand Timberland . (www.timberland.com)

... Let's guess it just looks "international & fashionable" to show english characters, even in disorder with no meaning...

(Photo taken in Nanjing city, Jiangsu province, August 2003)

... This shop sells everything you want but not any single Disney or Mickey related items. Probably to attact attention from the outside...

(Photo taken in Yunnan province, Oct 2003)

... This shop in Shanghai (picture taken in Oct 2003) sells cheap jewellery in an underground shopping mall and uses a name/logo coming from ...

... from an international hotel chain (http://www.regenthotels.com)

"Manger" means "to eat" in French. This shop could have been a restaurant, but for now it sells fashion bags.

(picture taken in Shanghai, August 2003)

"Fin" means either "the end" or "fine/delicate" in French (thank you Franca).

Probably the newest & fashionable way for "High Grade Dress".

(Photo taken in Nanjing city, Jiangsu province, August 2003)

The chinese shops even borrow the Hong-Kong brands creations now... The shop owner has probably seen the original brand in a Hong-Kong mall (this already-funky name is a chain in Hong-Kong). An interesting mix of French and English which means ... strictly nothing. ("Belle" in French means "Beautiful")

And now, the best of the best !

Original "Nike" Logo (Jinhong city, Yunnan, Oct 2003)

First "creation" derived from Nike Logo. The shop sells sportswear of course. (photo taken in Jinhong city, Oct 2003)
Second "creation" derived from Nike Logo. The shop also sells sportswear. (photo taken in Jinhong city, Oct 2003)
