The
Central Park of Beijing, Bei Hai Park has an 800-year
history as the royal garden of the Jin, Yuan,
Ming and Qing Dynasties. This park is a really
great oasis from the pollution and traffic-clogged
metropolis that is Beijing. Beautiful gardens
and a calm lake on which you can also rent paddle
boats. Go in the morning to see the elderly chinese
perform tai chi or sword fighting or in the after
noon to play chinese chess or ma-jong
The
inverted bowl-style, Lamaist dagoba was built in 1651
during the Qing Dinasty, in honour of the fifth Dalai
Lama's visit to Beijing. It stands right in the middle
of Beihai Park, on the top of Qiong islet, being its major
scenic spot.
in
front of the dagoba, there is a terrace on which a glazed
chamber was built, called Shanyin Hall. Its four sides
are covered by a hundred glazed tiles depicting Buddha.
