Dalian
lies between the Ocean and mountains of the northern
chinese Liaoning province. As one of the important
heavy industry base, Dalian is a major seaport
in China with a population of 5.5 million people.
Because
of its past influence from the former japanese
and russian invasions, the city's main interest
stands in its ancient architecture, struggling
since few year with more and more modern high
buildings, political symbols of China's economic
development. |

Few
remaining old houses :
Here
are some samples of old houses in which mainly poor
families live today. Many have been destroyed in recent
years and only few old streets with such houses remain
today. I did not see any old house renovated.

More
and more brand new houses :
Instead
of buying and renovating old houses, rich chinese
prefer having a top-new house built like the ones
you see here, which style remains still inspired from
the old houses.

Lushun
port neighoring Dalian is formerly known in western
countries as ... Port Arthur !
The
coastal southern area of Liaoning province is still
today one of the important military base of Northern
China. Also, a third of the Liaoning province business
output remains in the ship building industry. In the
above photos, a military ship out of service opens its
door to tourists.

This 25m high spaceship might not be immediately ready

in a suburbs's park.
...
although this might at first look somewhow weird to
a westerner's eyes, chinese people see it as athe symbol
of china growth, aim towards future and country development.
