Trip in Southern & Central Vietnam (May 2004)
   
 

 
 

Because of fits just-emerging tourism structure, Vietnam is an authentic trip destination of many cultural interests and geographical diversity : the Red River Delta in the north, the Mekong Delta in the south and almost the entire coastal strip are a patchwork of green rice paddies tended by men and women wearing conical hats.

There are some great beaches along the east coast, inland mountains, dense & misty forests, Vietnam offers an opportunity to see a country of traditional charm and beauty that rapidly opens up to the outside world.

Despite its ongoing economic progesses and the pressures of a quick development, this dignified country has managed to preserve most of its rich civilisation and cultured society.

The following photos, displayed by topics were taken in May 2004 during a week's trip in the South and Center of Vietnam.

Vietnam is 1750 km long from from the Northern to the southern points. The following pictures are shot in Central Vietnam in Hoi An and Hue areas.

Vietnam's wars past & today's communist propaganda
 
 

Vietnam's recent war past is very obvious everywhere and most recent war records after the Second World War include wars against France, Japan, USA, China, Cambodia and Laos. Vietnam was probably the most fought nation of the second half of the 20th century, which first independance victory in Dien Bien Phu against the french army (1954) was also followed shortly by the independance of most colonialised nations in Asia and Africa.

Ho Chi Minh ("uncle Ho"), the early (communist) leader of the Viet Minh party fought for both the independance and the reunification of northern and southern Vietnam.

Currently, the Communist Party propaganda is still strong in Vietnam (it looks today like it was in China 15-20 years ago) and tends togradually switch to a certain form of Nationalism (like it happened too in mainland China, following the trends of opening and economic reforms).
